OBLIGATION I solemnly swear upon my honor to be true and loyal to the National Union of Marine Cooks & Stewards and to the cause of organized labor; to abide by and put into practice the principles laid down in the preamble and body of the Constitution of this union; and to obey all the rules the union may adopt. PREAMBLE The Marine Cooks & Stewards Union is organized for the purpose of improving the working and living conditions of it's members and their families, and to unite them in the struggle to attain the economic, social and political welfare of the communities in which they work and live, and of all peoples. These objects can only be fully achieved when the people of the country and of all countries, united through various labor, political and fraternal organizations, succeed in establishing an order in which the resources of the earth will be so utilized as to bring the greatest good to the greatest number. "WHEN POLICE MOVE IN ON GUILD PICKETS This picture was taken just before police arrested 18 men and woman. Members of or sympathizers with the American Newspaper Guild, in a strike against the Seattle Star, at Seattle, Wash. The Guild has been on strike against the Star since July 3. Police Said the arrests were not for picketing but for "ganging up in a doorway" in attempts to prevent E.W. Scripps executive and employees from entering. The incident followed a mass visit of strikers to the Star when they demanded their jobs back as a group. 8-3-37"

This is a working list that is continually being expanded and cross referenced as I work through archival material. You will notice I pose questions next to some of the locals or include various notes. If you use this list as a reference please know it may not be 100% accurate. This is a continuation of my project to map the Congress of Industrial Organizations. You will notice several different charters with the same local number. The International reused local numbers as they amalgamated or ceased to exist. Making this research a tad bit more difficult. ILWU Local 1 - RAYMOND, WA (longshore) *** chartered ’37  ILWU Local 2 - SAN FRANCISCO, CA (shipscalers) *** chartered ’37 ILWU Local 3 - STOCKTON, CA, (Barge / Power Boat)  *** chartered ’37 in 1950 Local 3 becomes catch all for the International Fisherman & Allied Workers after they are expelled from the CIO.
